    Astellia Teaser - Classical MMORPG.

Astellia is a Classical MMORPG. Join us on an adventure through dungeons, epic battlefields, and write your story amongst the stars.

Just found out about this game today; Korean MMO that is PvP and PvE, that seems to have a pretty cool companion system. The will be having the typical Triad class system (tank, heal, dps), and will have 5 classes at launch. PvE is your classic MMORPG style, but sounds like they will be having a 3 realm system for PvP which could be interesting.

Following is a YouTube video (from Cryy) that has a list of what to expect in Astellia (the list shows up at 2:45 in the video):

The most interesting thing that may set it apart from other MMOs is the companion system. At launch you will have 30 different Astell (their name for your companion) that you can collect. At this time in Korea they might be able to buy Astell packs from marketplace that gives random Astell, but the producers say for NA version you will be able to earn all that in game (will cover marketplace more later). As you get and use the Astell you can level them up and if you get duplicates you can merge them into your existing to help power them up. You use the Astell similar to pets in that they will help hunt, and they have different types of Astell so you can change out as you need for situations. You can also keep one out free of cost, or summon up to 3 total with the more you have out the faster your yellow bar depletes; so you can summon a couple extra to help in a tight situation and then put them away before your yellow bar fully depletes.

Some other notes on the game that I’ve seen so far:

    • The game has been in development for 7 years
    • The game is on UE3 and I’ve seen at leaast one video where there was some big FPS drop in super crowded area
    • The game will be B2P so far
    • The game will have microtransactions, but publisher is saying it will be cosmetics only (heard that a time or two so far)
    • Group size is 4 (but each person can have their Astell out so technically
    • From what I can tell PvP takes place in Pvp zones so no forced PvP
    • The dungeons will have various difficulty levels; including solo, with the more difficult getting the better loot
    • Publisher is saying that the dungeons shouldn’t take more than ~a hour
    • Game is coming to NA Summer of 2019; publisher said they should have a couple of beta tests prior to that.
    • Right now classes are gender locked, but publisher is saying for NA they want to get rid of gender lock. They also admit that might not happen before launch for all classes, but if they are when they unlock the genders they will offer free character change when they are brought in (basically if you want a female warrior at launch but can only make male, go ahead and start playing the male warrior and as soon as they unlock genders you will be able to change to female for free if you still want).
They were recently at Pax South and did a Twitch Stream:

Astellia Online Panel - Pax South 2019

Not sure if much other interest out there, but something going to keep my eye on.

Some info on the Astell system; copied from here 1:

With the announcement of Astellia’s release into the Western market, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the questions folks have been asking. A whole lot of you have been asking for more details on the origins of Astels, and what these fantastic little companions will do to enhance aspects of your gaming experience in Astellia.

Early on in the development stages of Astellia, we explored a multitude of different game concepts. All in pursuit of features that would bridge the ever growing content gap between players who enjoy solo play and those who prefer to party up to tackle more challenging encounters. While also expanding the horizon on standard party compositions (ie: Tank, Healer, DPS), giving players more freedom to play the classes they desire. After several iterations and a lot of important lessons learned, our team felt confident the Astel system accomplished the aforementioned goals.

Astels come in three power ranks, fulfil one of seven different combat roles, and have a full lore rich backstory. Servants, while weakest in terms of raw power, are easier to maintain and offer greater diversity in the amount of combat roles they can fill. Guardians are the next tier up, with a considerable power boost at the cost of an increased drain on the resources needed to maintain their presence. Saviors are the greatest of all Astels, boasting a nearly unrivaled amount of destructive power, but may only be invoked for very brief periods of time.

In combat, each Astel has a unique set of abilities to carry out their specific role, including a special combo attack triggered by specific player character skills. Knights are the stalwart tank, providing damage reduction and high threat generation. Warriors and Assassins increase physical attack and traverse the frontlines punishing unwary enemies, or preventing opponents from fleeing. Scholars and Muses provide increased healing power, battlefield support through healing, and augmentations in the form of buffs. Mages and Archers increase physical or magic range damage, suppress enemy movement, and unleash wanton destruction from the afar.

Careful planning of your summoned companions will allow you to further augment your strengths and offset your weaknesses. While opening up interesting group compositions and dynamics in the process. Speed clearing a dungeon with an extra damage dealer, by using tactical play and multiple healing companions for example. For solo players, you’ll be able to focus on playing the class you desire, without feeling penalized by low damage output, a lack of healing, or not having a tank.

In addition to supporting you in combat, Astels can be upgraded in a multitude of ways, increasing their overall power and providing players with special passive buffs. Socketing gems will augment their stat power, gaining experience and levels increases their base stats, and star rankings that drastically increase their combat prowess. Reaching specific milestones will reward players with superior costumes for that Astel, and showcasing your achievements along with additional buffs.

Acquiring an Astel is a permanent and powerful addition to your character, which can be accomplished through normal gameplay. Such as completing primary storyline quests, where new Astels are introduced as critical events unfold, or as a reward for defeating a challenging dungeon boss. Should you receive an Astel you already own as a reward for completing a dungeon, it will automatically be consumed, applying the experience points towards increasing the Astel’s star ranking.

There’s a lot of depth to the Astel system, and we’re certain players will find even more creative and interesting ways to make use of it. We hope you found this first look at the Astel system informative and helpful.

Korean-born Astellia has been hovering on the horizon for the last few years of its development as Barunson E&A – the majority owner of the studio behind the game, Studio 8 – has guided it through Asia. And now it’s on track to release here in the west this summer, as a buy-to-play title focused on PvE, PvP, raids, crafting, and even un-gender-locked classes (contrary to the Korean version). In fact, we’ve even covered how the studio’s western developers are working hard to avoid becoming a pay-to-win mess or a “smash-and-grab” that so many other ports sadly are.

Today we’ve got an exclusive dev blog from Barunson focused on two of the game’s classes: the sword-and-board-focused Warrior and the priestly Scholar.

Astellia Developer Diary: Introducing the Warrior and the Scholar
Over the course of the next few weeks, we will take a look at the different classes available to play when Astellia launches later this summer. We will kick off this journey by covering the Warrior and the Scholar – one holds the line, while the other keeps its teammates alive. Read on for the details!

    The Warrior:
Armed with both their sword and shield the warrior is the vanguard of the group. Taking on the responsibility of the tank they provide their body as a shield for others. Their defensive specialization allows the warrior to command the flow of the battle providing their comrades with a tactical edge. When faced with overwhelming odds they can also call upon their Adamantium Shield skill which increases their defense but prevents the use of other abilities.

Besides sheer brawn, the warriors have additional tools to shape the battlespace. With their Multi-Chain ability, warriors can launch a hooked chain in front of them to impale their targets pulling them in close for the kill. They can also make use of Quake slamming the ground causing an area of effect knockdown with damage.

Calling upon the assistance of the Astels warriors are able to perform powerful combination attacks. Draco, a dragon-like Astel, will perform the Split Breath combo attack. Shooting a frontal cone of flames, causing damage to all targets and dealing increased amounts of damage to targets that are either knocked down or stunned. This makes the warrior’s Quake ability all the more potent. Serpens will empower the warrior’s Multi-Chain ability by creating a Toxic Cloud enveloping chained enemies in a pool of gas poisoning them and inflicting continuous damage.

    The Scholar
In contrast to the warrior, the scholar specializes in group support and healing. While the warrior is busy running headlong into battle the scholar is focused on keeping the warrior and the rest of their group alive. Abilities like Bless allow the scholar to continuously heal the hit points of all party members with holy power infused Atra. However, scholars are fully self-sufficient and when not focusing on using their powers to cure or restore others they can twist their knowledge of Atra to create destructive forces and smite their enemies.

The scholar does more than add hit points back to other player’s hit point pool. They too can also manipulate enemies on the battlefield allowing their allies time to regroup or outmaneuver their foes. Hurling a bolt of energy at their enemy through the ability Arc Slow reduces their enemy’s movement speed. Scholars can also call upon their strengths to cast Divine Shell granting a holy barrier to all party members near them raising their defenses.

A few key Astel combos available to the scholar greatly enhance their crowd control and healing abilities. Kitsune will cast Recovery on Divine Shell providing a continuous heal to the party members by infusing them with powers of the moon. Pisces will cast Aqua Bubble on targets hindered by Arc Slow trapping the targets within a water bubble, further hindering their movement and preventing the enemies from using some of their skills.

These are just two of the character classes you can look forward to playing later this summer. Based on classic MMORPG roles, the warrior and scholar are similar to the tank and healer classes you have grown to love in traditional MMORPGs, but each of them has their own unique flavor thanks to the skills and Astel combos that you will only find in Astellia.

Astellia Online Developer Diary: Introducing the Archer

    • NEWS

      Apr 24, 2019
    [IMG]
Some fighters like to shake it up in the middle of the pack, shield, and sword in hand, striking at the very heart of their enemies while up close and personal. Others prefer to deal their death from afar – sniping the eye of a cyclops with a finely tuned snap of the bowstring. If that sounds like you, then your preferred class in Astellia just might be the Archer.

Primarily a ranged damage dealer, and one of the most powerful single-target slayers in the game, the Archer excels at whittling down her foes’ health from afar – often leaving them dead or dying before they even have a chance to get within striking distance. With exceptional acrobatics and a variety of different traps and snares, the Archer can also make sure their prey is unable to chase them down. But beware, if caught unaware or surrounded by too many foes, the Archer’s lighter defenses and armor will not last long.

Using a skill like Hammer Shot, the Archer can concuss an enemy, stunning them long enough for them to get in a few more damaging shots, or perhaps using it as a means to get some distance between the Archer and its prey. Similarly, the Archer can use a skill called Evasive Arrow, during which the bowman shows off their mobility by performing a backflip and unleashing a barrage of suppressive fire that slows down any enemies caught in the fire. And if facing many enemies, the Archer can use their Maelstrom Arrow, which creates a whirlwind at the target location and pulls all enemies into the center, hindering their ability to move for a time.

Of course, what Astellian would be complete without his or her Astels to accompany them on the battlefield? Like all the classes in Astellia, the Astels you pair with your character will synergize with the skills at your disposal. For instance, Kirin wields a skill called Ballista, which can highly damage a target and inflict a bleed effect for damage over time. Meanwhile, Ram will provide healing for you or your party members upon using skills like Evasive Arrow. Allowing you to experiment and find a combat style that best suits your needs.

There are many more tricks up the sleeve of the Archer, but this should give you a good idea of what to expect when you charge into the fray with this ranged attacker. One of five core classes in Astellia, how will you play your Archer? Will you focus on mobility and quick shots, or will you pin down your enemies with snares, and damaging snipes? The choice is yours.

Astellia Developer Diary: Meet the Mage and the Assassin
By Guest Writer on April 24, 2019

When Astellia launches later this summer, it will come packed with exciting, interesting classes that may seem familiar on the surface, but that come with their own unique “Astellia” touch. In our latest developer diary, we’re going to take a look at the Mage, a wily caster who can bring down a world of elemental pain, and the Assassin, a master of lethal deception.

    The Mage

The Mage, as one might expect, is a master of the elements, each one used to create a maelstrom of damage to enemies. Alternately, Mages can summon the elements to create protective barriers when the tide turns and can even teleport short distances to regroup before unleashing the storm again.

The Mage is a specialist in large devastating AoE attacks. Whether it is calling a massive Hellfire explosion or a slowing, freezing Blizzard, the Mage can transform the battlefield in the blink of an eye. For more targeted damage, the Mage sprays Fire Stream in a cone in front of her. Those unlucky enough to be within range will be damaged.

The Mage also draws on the power of Astels, such as Canceria and Sirius, in order to unleash powerful, battle-altering combinations. Hellfire has the ability to trigger Holy Circle, a powerful AoE attack created from the light itself and that detonates to inflict damage to all targets within range. Fire Stream and Ice Hammer unleash the fury of Blinding Light, a powerful flash of light that blinds all targets within range while simultaneously reducing the threat of the caster and allowing the player to chain high damage attacks, while not drawing aggro away from the group’s tank.

    The Assassin

While enemies are dealing with the devastating AoE attacks of the Mage, the Assassin specializes in agile, cunning attacks. He seemingly appears out of nowhere by using subterfuge to lure unwary opponents into ambushes. His attacks inflict damage over time with poison and bleeding effects before he executes furious and deadly finishing combos.

The Assassin’s goal is to get in -- and get out -- of toe-to-toe battles with enemies, before they can react. To do so, he is able to Blink behind a foe to attack them from behind. He can also use the same speed in a Spectral Dash attack that sees him charge forward in a line to attack all targets along his trajectory. If he finds himself in trouble, the Assassin can use Smoke Screen to increase his evasion (and that of his allies), doubling as a means of escape should the fight turn disadvantageous to him.

The Assassin also harnesses the power of Scorpio and Link Astels. Blink triggers Shadow Blitz, a deadly attack that teleports him behind the target to perform two powerful scorpion sting attacks. The damage is increased when behind the target. Spectral Dash sets off Shadow Assault, causing the Assassin to teleport behind his enemy and let loose a flurry of five dagger attacks.

These are just two of the character classes Astellia players will be able to choose from later this summer. If you love high-damage DPS classes with an Astellia-sized twist, the Mage and the Assassin are definitely worth a look.

From what I am seeing about the game it looks like it may be interesting; a lot of it will be same ol same ol, but the addition of the Astels looks like it can be an added depth to the normal classes that can make things a lot more interesting.

One of my biggest concerns right now is the fact that the game is on the Unreal 3 Engine, and as we all have seen that tends to lead to an unoptimized mess. Another concern is that the game is kind of pay2win in Korea (you buy the Astels though the cash shop), but the devs for the western version have said that that will not be the case here. Some people are also kind of ifish about the gender lock, but the devs have said they are working to get that removed but it may be post launch for some of the classes.

Thanks for starting the thread @Trox

I've been really into the research of this game lately, as the pre-release part of an MMO is part of what I enjoy about gaming, and we are in the middle of the longest drought of MMO releases that I've experienced. So I got into this game when I read some information about it and started watching some videos.

I like the concept. It's a simple game with some interesting mechanics and novelties. I don't thing it will be a huge release, but I think the game might be fun enough to fill the gap and present something 'new'.

The Astel system is pretty unique, in that you don't summon spirits or pets or monsters, you summon players. You can gather over 30 Astels on your journey and you can level, and should level, the ones that help your play style the most. They not only tank, heal and DPS depending on which ones you choose to summon (you can summon 3 at a time), but the perform combo attacks and player driven attacks. The game is highly solo'able up to end game because you can solo a dungeon as a party of 4 (you and your 3 Astels).

It's nothing ground breaking, but the combat is very visual and aesthetic and is combo / rotation based.

I wouldn't recommend playing on the Korean servers, as it's a rather long and complicated process of getting a verified KR account, a good VPN and installing several other components along with altering some of your PC settings. It's a pain.

However, the NA closed beta starts on June 25th and runs through July 1st for the higher tiered founders packs, the highest of which is $99.

It's worth it to me to try something new right now ... if you're going to play, let me know. I'll post some gameplay if there's no NDA along the way.

I had asked on the forums about a NDA, and thry have said that there will be no NDA so feel free to Stream and spread the word; they just ask that you are very clear that the game is only in CBT at the time.

The Devs and GMs have been very active on their new forums which is usually a good sign. They have said they may not respond to a lot of posts since thry want thrm to develop dynamically to get a true reading of the community, but they are reading them.

Also by launch they will have the gender lock removed from the warrior and assassin classes ( which funnily enough are the 2 male locked classes at this time).

At this time I am still planning on checking the game out, but I am having way too much fun on the Everquest Mangler Progression server (in one of the fore front raid guilds there) so have no plans on getting any of the starter packs or do any CBTs. BTW I personally like the way they are staggering the headstarts based off the starter pack you get; it will help spread the population out during launch so they hopefully won't launch a bunch of servers that become dead by month 2. They also said that they won't release the "competitive" areas until they feel a significant portion of the population is ready for them (so those that get the 7 day head start won't get insta-pwn matches just because of the packs they bought).

Another thing I've learned while checking out the Official Astellia Forums is that the current starting guild size will be 30 players, but that can grow as you level up the guild. The devs have stated that they will be looking at that size during the CBTs so it may actually increase, but for now plan on it being like RO.

Can we stream during the closed beta(s), is there an NDA, or any other form of restrictions we must adhere to?
Players are free to stream during any of the beta tests of Astellia, no NDA needed, in fact we encourage you to do so. We love seeing what our community is up to, so much so we may even drop by and say hi!

The only request we have is that you include some form of indication to viewers that this is beta in your title. This isn’t a requirement, it just helps folks stay in the loop and increases the chances of one of our team members finding and joining your stream. Other than that, we hope you enjoy yourselves!

What is your stance on region locks and IP Blocking?

Being gamers ourselves, we know how incredibly awesome games are at bringing people together from all over the world. Our team would like to promote this type of experience as much as is feasible for us to do so.

Still, as a business we must also adhere to any restrictions that may be imposed by other publishers of Astellia in other regions. To that end, our intent is to avoid imposing any unnecessary IP or Regional Blocking that we are not obligated to do so.

Do you plan on having a Content Creator Program, if yes, can you share details and how to sign up?
With the world growing more connected than ever by Streams, Youtube Videos, Guides, and Podcasts. We’re absolutely going to be operating a Creator Program. Much of the initial groundwork has been laid out, and will include common requirements like maintaining an account in good standing, minimum stream or upload amounts. To familiar perks like having direct access to staff, being featured on our social media, and other similar benefits.

More details on how to sign-up, requirements, and all the sweet stuff gained from becoming a partner will be coming out as we move forward.

Is a character name immediately free for use after initiating the character deletion process or must you wait the full deletion timer before regaining access to a name?

Due to the way the character deletion system works, players are given a period of time to undo their decision to delete a character. During this time the character name is locked from use by all players, including the current owner, until the process is fully completed or has been canceled. This prevents any form of conflict arising should a player decide to cancel the deletion process.

Note: When the process is complete the name will become immediately available, take care to ensure you do not lose your name.

Will the auto loot accessory (Ring of Exploration) only be available through purchasing the Legendary Pre-Order Pack?
No, the Ring of Exploration will only be available through Loyalty, and the previously mentioned Pre-Order reward. This item will not be sold via the Cash Shop.

In the Korean version of Astellia, a guild starting size was 30 members is this still the limit?

Guilds were one of the systems of Astellia that we took into heavy consideration when bringing Astellia to the Western market. There are many differences between the Eastern and Western audiences, some that we can plan for and others that we’re certain will surprise us. As we’ve mentioned in the past, sweeping changes based off knee jerk reactions have a tendency to cause frustration for players, which we’d like to avoid.

This is particularly true for complex systems like guilds, where even minor changes can have significant impacts on the end user experience for many players. It is to that end that we plan to carefully calibrate this system over the course of the Betas leading up to Launch. With the initial introduction in CBT-1 mirroring the initial Korean launch specs, with an initial member limit at 30. From there, this allows us to gather additional baseline data such as: average player count within guilds, how quickly and easily guilds rank up, and how many guilds are created, to further refine our planned adjustments. Once we have collected and reviewed the data we will definitely share our end results so everyone will know before launch what the specifications for guilds will be.

    Closed Beta One Overview
    Jun-20-2019 announcements
    [IMG]

    Greetings Astellians,

Our first Closed Beta Test is almost here! As we promised, today we are excited to explain the purpose of CBT-1. First we want to make it clear, for Astellia, the CBT Phase will focus on testing the servers performance, PvE Progression, and collecting user data to support our future content plans.

We’d like to highlight that during this beta, not all aspects of the game client will match our intended launch specifications. One such example is the tutorial system, which will mirror the version available during the KR launch. The reasoning behind this, is to provide the Developers with data in order to dial in on improvements to these systems in the Western version. This means your support in testing these elements will be invaluable, and we encourage you to share your personal insights with us.

    PvE Progression Testing
For the first 5 days of CBT-1 you will be able to play the game in its default state, this will allow us to measure progression speed, determine problematic areas, and overall give us a baseline for how the various game systems are being used. Beyond this general information, we’re also going to be paying close attention to how normal and legendary dungeons are performing. Our concern here is gear progression, we want to make sure that the progression from normal to legendary dungeons is both challenging and rewarding. To support this on Saturday we will enable a Special NPC that will level your character to level 50 and provide a set of suitable equipment. Please note to use the Level-Up NPC your character will need to be level ten or higher.

For the Technical Stress Test we do not need you to take any special actions other than to play the game as you normally would. All CBT-1 participants will be connecting to our NA Servers, we do this to apply as much pressure to the system as possible, however we want to make it very clear that we will have separate servers for NA & EU, and this setup is done specifically for testing purposes.

    Pre-Download
Being able to download the game in advance has been an on-going request since CBT was announced, and we are happy to provide this option. The CBT-1 Client will be available for download on Thursday, June 20th. We are targeting for this service to be available in the afternoon PST.

Beyond testing these points and collecting gameplay information, we are excited to show you our first wave of combat improvements that include active dodging as well as the improved animations, our new in-game wiki, performance improvements and more. This is a major step forward for Astellia, and we thank all of you who have supported us this far, it has been incredible working with all of you as we prepare Astellia for launch.

I didn't know about the insta-50 dynamic in CBT1 ... that's going to be fun, to be able to see all of the combat skills and animations. I wonder if they are going to give you a reasonable set of Astels with it.

To note ... animation cancelling is also a part of combat that's built into the game. That's also a good move to promote fluid combat

To craft or not to craft: that is the question everyone asks when starting a new mmorpg. For many players, the act of creating something from scratch provides a vital sense of enjoyment to their gaming experience. In Astellia we understand that while not all players enjoy crafting content, all can benefit from crafting. What we mean by this is whether you are collecting resources from the field, earning high-end components from dungeons, or buying the finished products off the auction house, crafting has a role in every player experience throughout Astellia.

The Crafting System is divided into two categories in Astellia: Eight Crafting Professions & Five Gathering Skills. A player is able to have and use every crafting profession, but may only specialize in one of the gathering skills at a time. Below we will list out each with some details of how crafting & gathering functions.
    • Crafting Professions
      • Blacksmithing
        • Blacksmiths process raw ore into ingots to craft armor and weapons for Warriors & Assassins.
      • Jewel Crafting
        • Jewel crafters process Gems to make Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings, all classes use these items.
      • Carpentry
        • Carpenters process Logs into Lumber in order to craft Armor & Weapons for Archers, Scholars, and Mages.
      • Leather Crafting
        • Leatherworkers process Leather into components such as Leather Straps and Leather Plates that can be used by other professions to make weapons and armor.
      • Tailoring
        • Tailors process Cloth into components such as Clothing, Cloth Covers, and Bowstrings, which can be used by other professions to make weapons and armor.
      • Alchemy
        • Alchemists process Herbs and Roots into a variety of HP & MP Potions
      • Archeology
        • Archeologists process Relics into Artifacts to make Runes, Star Jewels, and Atra Crystals which are used by all classes.
      • Cooking
        • Process raw ingredients into food that provides temporary stat buffs.
    • Gathering
      • Logging
        • Chop down trees to gather logs used in Carpentry.
      • Metal Mining
        • Mine rocks to gather ore used in Blacksmithing.
      • Gem Mining
        • Mine rocks to gather gems used in Jewelry Crafting.
      • Herb Gathering
        • Gather roots and herbs used in Alchemy.
      • Relic Investigation
        • Gather relics used in Archeology.

The general premise of the system is very simple, acquire the proper materials and use them to create the desired items. You increase your gathering skills by gathering, this will allow you to access higher tier resources, and crafting will earn you exp that unlocks higher tiers of crafting recipes. If you do not wish to gather you can, of course, buy materials other players list on the auction house, or you can sell the resources you gather as another source of income in the game.

While most crafting materials come from the open field or vendors, key crafting components only come from dungeons, and of course, those dungeons can provide you with equipment as well. The goal behind this system was to allow multiple playstyles to utilize the crafting system, whether to make quick profit selling materials, investing the time to make finished products for others or to craft yourself the perfect set of equipment. Astellia excels at supporting many different playstyles.

Crafting is definitely not mandatory in Astellia, quest rewards and dungeon loot will be enough to reach the end-game, but through crafting more options are opened up. In addition to this, we have plans for further content after launch that will push the system further allowing players to combine the crafted items into some of the best equipment in the game, but we will share more about that closer to its release.

We hope you have enjoyed this insight into the Astellia crafting system, and we are looking forward to sharing more information as we approach launch. Make sure to keep an eye on our »website« as well as our social media (FB, Twitter), and we will have more to share soon.

    Safe Travels Astellians,
    The Astellia Team

I would enquirer on the forums about the Astels; the CMs and Devs there have been really really responsive to people. And yeah the anicancel will be a nice addition if done right. One of the major flaws of Bless; imo, is that thecombat was too blahh, and rigid. With the animation cancel and active dodging it should make it more interesting.

BTW there is supposed to be a link to the pre-CBT download that the Devs decided to say screw it an allow (according to their Discord), but I am unable to find at this this time. If I locate it I will try to link here; but your account has to be flagged for the CBT1 so as to be able to download it at this time.

Also keep an eye out for some beta keys; they have started giving them away.

Yeah I've seen some good things about the combat and gameplay that keeps me hopeful about Astellia right now, but after Bless I am still maintaining some doubts on the game. To be fair one of the biggest turn offs for me in Bless was their combat skill system; I honestly beive if they kept a part of the Japanese skill leveling system it would have been a ton better.

4 of us next week that I know of. It's only the first CBT, so we'll see how it goes from there. If there is good press and good reviews, I think it will be a popular game

Btw there have been a lot of CBT1 keys going out lately; join the Astellia Discord for good notifications on when they go out. Personally I am too busy killing all the dragons in EQ so won't be bothering with the Closed Betas this time around, but am planning on watching as many streams on it as possible while killing said dragons.

I still have a cbt1 key if anyone would like to try it on the 25th c:
also apparently the launcher is intentionally throttled on the first 10% for testing purposes or something, it's a real pain if your internet is already garbage like mine is

Are You Ready? CBT-1 Start Time
    Jun-24-2019 announcements
    [IMG]

    Greetings Astellians,

Tomorrow Astellia CBT-1 will begin! First, we want to thank all of you who will be joining us to test the current build and help us collect critical service information. We have confirmed the server opening schedule internally and want to share the details with you.

We understand that for some, this schedule may not be ideal. W felt it was best to explain the reasoning behind this decision. This start time gives us the most operational time to identify and resolve any issues that may arise with the start of our first Closed Beta, before we reach peak game play hours for both NA and EU Players. While also minimizing the potential for any such issues to impact your game play.

Later on this week we’ll be sharing the schedule for, and the location of the Level-Up NPC that will enable players to begin testing the Legendary Dungeon content. The initial focus of the first phase will be to allow us to get as much data on player progression rates, and identify potential pain points in the leveling process for players. Keep an eye out for more announcements later on this week!

CBT-1 is a major milestone for Astellia, this first wave of data will be instrumental in supporting the future plans of the game. We know there is still much to do between now and launch, but watching this community grow has been an inspiration to the team.

Thank you all for the support,
    - The Astellia Team

I haven't played the game yet, but can give some thoughts based off the streams I've watched.

The game is defiently your typical Korean MMO; don't expect anything ground breaking in terms of game play. The game performance seems to be pretty smooth without the massive frame drops that Bless had. I chatted with probably 10 different streamers so far and they have all remarked on that. There is some UI lag when you go about opening various UI windows (especially the Atellia page), but that seems to be a common issue for all UE3 games, and isn't something game breaking.

The questing seems to be along the basic levels, and that is how you will be leveling up. Combat is your typical tab-targeting combat, but the active dodging may make it a bit more fun; will actually have to play to see how that goes. I do like that you will have both group and solo dungeons you can run so should keep it interesting. The Astel system also seems to be pretty interesting, but again will need to play with it to find out how it really is.

The highest level stream I've watched so far was about level 24, so a lot of this is also being based on lower level stuff; so things might even get more intense at the higher levels. Overall it seems like more people are pretty ok with the game; again nothing ground breaking but will be a fun way to pass the time. I've seen a few people are dogging the game, but they gave the vibe of not being fans of the Korean MMO models anyways so need to take what they say with a grain of salt.

At this time I will definitely be getting at least the base game on release; maybe getting a preorder pack prior to release (not sure on that yet), I like what I see and think the game is going in the right direction.

I haven't gotten super far (like lvl 17) but I'll probably run some lvl 50 stuff when the lvl jump comes out and test that out. The combat and overall feel aren't anything like...groundbreaking, like Trox mentioned, but its not bad! I really do like the summoning system, and the astels themselves have combo skills that proc off you class skills and vice versa which really keeps thing fun. The story dungeons were pretty boring in terms of difficulty but once I hit the lvl 15 party dungeon it actually got pretty good.

Part of that may have been the complete lack of a tank class and we were all playing hot potato with our astels for aggro but it was amusing lol

also the fact that you have the ability TO run by yourself or with any group comp because of the variety of astels is super cool
lots of loot on the bosses and they drop summons as well which is awesome

Here's my take on what I've learned so far. I haven't spent much time leveling one character to as high as I can get to, but rather I've leveled every character to 12 and a couple of them to 20.

The game is actually kind of hard to 'review' because of how it's set up ... but here are my observations

    1. Astellia is never going to be a ground breaking MMO that draws players away from more grounded and successful games.
    2. What it will do is offer a fun and enjoyable, stress-less, gaming experience that is well optimized with good combat, fun dungeons, bright visuals and a deep and complex dynamic of companion summoning (Astels)
    3. The game is very theme parked and linear and ushers the player along progression through quest areas, storyline instanced content, dungeons and crafting
    4. Questing is status quo and standard ... go kill these, collect those, run this dungeon, etc; It's not bad, but it's not anything we haven't done in dozens of other better games
    5. I struggled to think of what the game reminded me of ... and then it came to me. It reminds me of Riders of Icarus in the combat visuals and the questing.
    6. Dynamics wise, just replace the mount collection and taming in RoI with the Astel collection and progress in Astellia.
    7. The game at it's core, is very basic but a rather enjoyable distraction. It will entertain but not challenge.
    8. The odd thing to me is just how complex and deep the Astel dynamic is. I mean, the depth of the Astel system is deeper than the game as a whole, which is odd. They put a running ton of work into this companion system.
    9. Your Astels, which you can collect 30 of must be micro managed just like your main character.
    10. Astels can be leveled, equipped, enhanced, plussed up and gemmed just like your main character. They have a complex system of how much of their resource they consume when the are summoned alone, or when they are summoned with any combination of two others. You actually spend a lot of time in your Astel screen, and equal amounts of time during battle positioning and commanding them and managing their resources
    11. Many of the higher level Astels actually cast spells and skills that enhance or buff you own skills. You can use your skills in combo with theirs and they have combo attacks of their own. It's really an impressively deep system that actually belongs in a much bigger, AAA Tier type MMO.
    12. I fear end game will come quickly, as leveing is pretty easy ... and I fear that there won't be much offered at end game other than hard mode dungeons and gear grinding.

So, in a nutshell, Astellia is fun and BRIGHT ... damn the game is bright, and could be a nice distraction or filler game, but it's never going to be the next great MMO that everyone on the planet is waiting for. But I don't think anyone will be disappointed playing it as long as they know how mainstream ordinary it is from the beginning.

On Saturday, we're going to do some of the harder mode, legendary level 50 dungeons and I'll update after those as well to see how end game measures up.

Ohh one other thing I found out about for the Astel system watching soem of he Streams is that you can get some nice passive buffs depending on which Astels you have in your deck (loaded on your Astel hotbar). So that is something else you can use to help "customize" your character. I have to say the devs seemed to approach this pretty smartly; while rest of game is pretty cookie cutter the Astel system has a ton of depth to it that can help set it apart from the rest of the Korean MMOs. Another thing to look forward to at level 50 is your Arch-Class and how that works; can't wait to see how that goes.

and to note ... if you are going to play this game, beware that your Astels don't necessarily follow you in a straight line ... they are aggro machines if you are in a densely populated area ...

Dev Roundup of the CBT-1 Feedback:

    Community Forum: Beta One Roundup

    Greetings Astellians,

We’re back with another edition of Community Forum. After digging through the proverbial avalanche of feedback, we’ve prepared a breakdown of our initial assessment of discussion points. Below we will explain how the information is formatted.
    • The Topic is always bolded.
    • Below the topic we list the main feedback we received during CBT-1 about the given Topic.
    • Our Response will have a yellow header.
    • We will share our response to the topic and insight we received. While we will not always give specifics, we want to confirm that feedback is being reviewed, and share some insight into what we have planned next, but please understand we will not be able to respond to and address all feedback.
So without further ado, let’s dive into this great big wall of text!

    Launcher
For CBT-1 we tested out our initial launcher v1, this included some of the core features, but not all of them. We received ample feedback on this ranging from things such as new feature requests as well as correcting issues with the displayed status information and low download speeds.
    Response:
We read you loud and clear! Our aim for CBT-2 is to provide support for resumable downloads, improve download speeds, and additional language support for French and German. With more features to come as we approach launch.
    Alternative Download Methods
The addition of alternative download methods for the game client, such as direct downloads and torrents, would help alleviate the slow download issues. A few of you even went as far as to attempt to provide this on our behalf - which we appreciate the gesture.
However, we'd like to stress that we cannot support any external downloads from unofficial sources.
    Response:
We’re open to the idea of supporting this, but our primary focus will be ensuring the game launcher is better suited to providing optimal speeds in general for players.

    Combat
Combat still felt rigid, often times forcing players to make the difficult decision between moving to avoid incoming damage or chase down foes, versus remaining stationary to do damage.
    Response:
The Combat System as a whole is something our team has been looking at from day one. We’ve already begun implementing preliminary changes based off CBT-1 feedback, and will be releasing more info soon. Overall we agree that more work is needed, and this has our direct attention.

    Mana Regen
Downtime is commonplace in any MMORPG, but usually it’s as a result of making a mistake or pulling a few too many extra mobs. Waiting on mana after one or two fights on a regular basis is tedious and slow.
    Response:
During CBT-1 our team was present in-game and in many streams to witness first hand the downtime players were experiencing. We agree this needs work and have already begun to plan some additional adjustments to test during CBT-2. We'll have a post with more information coming soon.

    UI Options
Interface suggestions included options such as disabling or resizing individual elements. Clearer descriptions for character stats along with their effects, an increase in the amount of Hotkey bars. The ability to automatically block party / duel invites, better visibility of Minimap icons, and many other suggestions.
    Response:
In general, the interface is an area we expected to see the largest number of requests for Quality of Life (QoL) changes. You guys certainly delivered, providing us with a ton of great insights to look over for potential applications at a later date.

    Convert Armor to Costumes
The vibrant art style of the armors available in game would greatly benefit from the ability to convert pieces of armor into a costume that can be worn.
    Response:
This is a pretty cool idea, one that we hadn’t considered but agree would be a great post launch addition to the game.

    PvP
While PvP wasn’t the primary focus of this test, several players participated in it and had a few suggested improvements. Crowd control needs to have a higher diminishing returns, potion use in small scale PvP has too large of an impact on the outcome of a fight.
    Response:
During our next phase of beta testing (CBT-2), we’ll be focusing on collecting as much PvP data and community feedback as possible. This will allow us to have a better overall understanding of any necessary adjustments to ensure a better overall player experience is had.

    Gender / Age Locked Characters
Being unable to change genders and in one particular class, not having the option to adjust their age made it less desirable to play certain classes.
    Response:
Removing the genderlock is still on target, with the Warrior and Assassin classes being the first to receive these changes by launch, you can read more about it »here«. If there is sufficient demand for it, we’re also open to considering the possibility of an older looking version of the mage.

    Game Settings
The available game settings were missing common features that would provide players with additional control over hotkeys, sound settings, and graphical settings to improve game performance.
    Response:
Many of the suggestions were on point, and would provide significant quality of life improvements to the average player. The team is already looking at ways to begin implementing them.

    Asper
The amount of Asper generated during the course of leveling is not sufficient to cover the cost of enhancing more then a few items, when combined with paying off death penalties, buying potions, and crafting end-game gear.
    Response:
This is something already on our radar, and we’re going to continue reviewing our data and player feedback during CBT-2 before finalizing any changes.

    Guild Systems
The current iteration of the Guild System within Astellia feels very basic, lacking a lot of features that have become the standard in MMORPG’s. Players would like to see the addition of new guild functions like Banks, Quests, and Skills. To more basic aspects like increased guild sizes, and allowing players to sort the member lists.
    Response:
All in all, we agree the system could use work. We’re going to be working on additional features to be added to the overall guild system. We are also reviewing CBT Data to determine the ideal guild size and growth speed for our version of Astellia, we will collect more supporting information in CBT-2 in order to make the final adjustment before launch.

    Astel System
The Astel system while fun, could still be taken to the next level by implementing some improvements. Such as granting Astels more customization options that allow you to alter or enhance their abilities, or evolve individual Astels in a similar fashion to how player classes can evolve.
    Response:
These are awesome suggestions, the whole team is buzzing with potential concept ideas based off these suggestions. We’re going to look at ways to improve the depth of the Astel system, so keep an eye out for updates!

    Shared Quest Credit
Quest credit seems to be shared for some types of quests, but not for collection quests and Field Bosses. This sometimes makes grouping a bit grindy during questing.
    Response:
Shared credit for field bosses is already in the works, and should be available at launch. We’re looking into the possibility of implementing collection quest shared credit, but do not currently have any further details we can share.

    Character Creator Options
Character creation is pretty in depth in terms of what players can control with sliders, but more customization options like: hair styles, skin tones, and eye colors would be nice!
    Response:
We’re always on the lookout for ways we can provide players with more customization, we’ll be taking these suggestions into consideration for future content updates.

    Performance Drops
Astellia ran well for a majority of players, but there were definitely areas that had notable framerate drops.
    Response:
We’re aware of these reports and have tracked down a number of them thanks to all of you. Our team will continue to work on optimizing these areas and other general performance increases.

This will cover our latest Community Roundup, we want to thank all of you who participated in CBT-1. We know that there was more feedback than we have listed here, but rest assured that we do review all of the feedback, just because your topic was not listed in our post today does not mean that it has been ignored. We are excited to share more information about CBT-2, expect an announcement to go live next week with more details.

Thank you again for all the support,
    - The Astellia Team

    Greetings Astellians!

Our second Closed Beta Test is nearly upon us! Last Beta you helped us test Legendary Dungeons, PvE Progression, and Server Performance. During CBT-2 you’ll be able to participate in large scale PvP within Avalon, Explore the Cash Shop & Loyalty Systems, and initial revisions to the mana and progression systems.

Now for the part you’ve all been eagerly awaiting! Closed Beta 2 will begin on July 30th at 12:00am PDT | 09:00 CEST and will run through August 6th ending at 08:00am PDT | 17:00 CEST. Similar to last beta, we’ll be offering a pre-download of the beta client beginning on July 25th.

    Avalon
Face off against other Astellians within a PvPvE battleground known as Avalon. Each week players can join one of three factions to engage in battle with other Astellians, participate in PvE quests, and capture strongholds and other strategic areas on the map. Whether you’re interest lies in PvP or PvE content, there is something for everyone to do in Avalon.

    Loyalty & Cash Shop Systems
The second major focal point of CBT-2 will be granting players access to the Zender (Loyalty) and Cash Shop systems. Providing the first look at the changes being applied to these systems for the Western version of Astellia. We’ll have more details to come with an in depth break down of what players can expect to find in these systems.

    Mana and Progression Revisions
Our review of the data from CBT-1 highlighted some areas that were not performing exactly where we wanted them to be. During the first two days of CBT-2, players will be able to test the first set of preliminary changes based directly off data and player insights from CBT-1. These changes adjust aspects of mana regeneration, progression rates, and early dungeon difficulty. To accurately test these changes and gather data on the performance of Avalon it is necessary for us to use the same base build from CBT-1. This allows us to ensure we are moving in the right direction as we apply changes based on your insights and data collected during each beta.

We’re looking forward to having many of you join us for this round of testing. Be sure to keep an eye out on our social media (Twitter, Facebook) for many chances to get in and try out Astellia in the upcoming weeks!

Doing a quick peek around the forums they seem to say that the level-up NPC will be available at around lvl 5 this time.

    Greetings Astellians!

Starting at level 45, players will be granted the option to enter the massive PvPvE battlefield known as Avalon. Inside each 1000 player instance, players can engage in battle with other Astellians and Monsters alike as one of three factions: Ceres, Physe, or Eos. Battling for the spoils of war by occupying World Objectives, Gathering Resources, and Completing Quests for additional rewards.

    Entering Avalon
To enter Avalon, a player must first obtain level 45 and then open their Adventuring Window located at the bottom right hand side of their screen. From there, select Avalon and and hit the enter button. It is worth noting that a faction will be automatically chosen for you, based on the current population of other Avalon factions. Once a faction has been selected it cannot be changed until the end of the current cycle (one week). Players may also enter as a Guild or Party, with the following limitations:

    • The first member of a Guild to enter Avalon will determine what faction all members of the guild will be able to join.
    • Players may enter Avalon as a party, however all members must either be unaffiliated with a faction or part of the same faction.

    Avalon Objectives
Once inside, there are multiple objectives to participate in. With the end goal to earn as many individual Battle Points as possible, ultimately contributing towards the total number of Battle Points for your faction. Victory is determined by the faction that possesses the highest number of points at the end of each weekly cycle. Earning points can be accomplished by engaging in the following activities:

    • Slaying opposing faction members within Avalon.
      • Additional or less points are awarded depending on the slain opponents individual score.
    • Occupying world objectives known as Towers & Holy Stones.
      • Claiming a tower will award all nearby participants with points and provide short duration buffs.
      • Claiming a Holy Stone will reward all nearby participants with points and provide faction wide buffs (increasing in potency with each additional claimed Stone)
    • Slaying Monsters and Opposing Faction NPC guards.
      • Slaying Monsters will award participating players with points, the further away a monster is from the safety of your faction’s home region, the more points earned.
      • Killing NPC guards of the opposing factions will award points.
    Ranks
Astellians with exceptional performance on the battlefield can earn ranks to help them stand out amongst the rest. Each rank is dependent on the number of individual Battle Points earned by the player. As well as their hero / executioner rating, which is determined by how often they engage opponents of a similar or lesser rank.

    Quests
Each faction will provide players with a variety of quests, including: Main Story, Side, Daily, and Weekly quests. While the quest rewards themselves do not reward Battle Points, they instead provide Victory Tokens. Which can be redeemed outside of Avalon in the town of Meiville, for items that can be used to upgrade your character or Astels.

    Rewards
After a hard fought battle, Avalon participants will be rewarded with Zender at the end of each cycle. The amount earned is based on two criteria: a players overall contribution in the form of Battle Points, and their faction’s placement (1st, 2nd, 3rd place). The winning faction earns an additional 1.5 times bonus zender, and second place earns an additional 1.2 times bonus zender from the base chart below:

Please Note: Rewards are not additive, higher tier placement does not earn the previous tiers rewards.

Think one of the biggest take-aways from the above is that as soon as 1 person from the guild zones into Avalon that locks the whole guild to that faction. Maybe want to be something you fully nail down before, and make sure is well known throughout the guild by launch.

From a little later in the thread, but by a regular member and not a CM/Dev so as always take with grain of salt:

"Faction isn't chosen, but random. First in a guild to go in gets it set for the rest, same with groups, provided they are not already part of a faction.

It changes weekly, so no you wont be stuck with a specific faction forever, however, it's never a choice either.
It's done this way to prevent abuse."

So sounds like it has an auto-balancing feature so that all big guilds just can't pick one side for a bit to completely over-run the opposition for easy points.
