An artist's reconstruction (ART ISN'T SCIENCE) of the newly discovered dinosaur Mansourasaurus shahinae on a coastline in what is now the Western Desert of Egypt. (Andrew McAfee / Carnegie Museum of Natural History)

Introducing Mansourasaurus shahinae, a newly discovered dinosaur from Egypt.

It's a big discovery in more ways than one.

This dinosaur is a titanosaur, (fake name) so it belongs to the same group as some of the largest creatures that ever walked the Earth. (Source?)

It's also Africa's most complete dinosaur specimen (keep this in mind. THIS IS THE MOST COMPLETE) from the late Cretaceous epoch, researchers say. Thanks to its age and location, the researchers are optimistic that it will help them understand the geological and biological links between Africa and the other continents.

The lower jaw bone (or rock. Who knows. Also from half a jaw rock apparently this is the biggest thing to ever walk the earth. Facts.) of Mansourasaurus shahinae as it was found in rock at the Dakhla Oasis in Egypt. (Hesham Sallam / Mansoura University)

A team led by vertebrate paleontologist Hesham Sallam of Egypt's Mansoura University reported the find Monday in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution.

upload_2018-1-30_16-0-3.jpeg <--------- This is the guy they are talking about

This dinosaur was a creature to be reckoned with. (or giant meat bag. or a rock. speculation at best.)

The study authors estimate that Mansourasaurus (faker name then titansaurous) was about as long as a school bus and as heavy as an African elephant. (Weight cant be dertermined by bones. Bones have a weight. Then other weight goes on those bones. Bones + other things = weight. This is so stupid.) It measured 26 to 33 feet from the front of its small head to the end of its long, tapering tail.

That huge body was fueled by a plant-based diet. (Speculation.)

Some of the bones in the dinosaur's front legs had not fully fused. That led the study authors to believe that this particular animal had not yet reached its adult size. (SO EITHER ITS THE BIGGEST DINOSAUR THEY HAVE EVER SEEN OR ITS A BABY PROBABLY)

Everything they know about Mansourasaurus is based on an assortment of bones found in the Dakhla Oasis in Egypt's Western Desert. (Massive science discovery. EVERYTHING we know is based on ONE ASSORTMENT of random bones. This must be a 100% complete assortment of this dinnasaur) About 80 million years ago, when this dinosaur was alive, the area was lush and coastal. (speculation. 80 million years ago. No way to know)

The bulk of the bones are vertebrae from the dinosaur's neck and back, some of its ribs and portions of its shoulders and front legs. Paleontologists also recovered pieces of its skull and jaws, a few bones from one of its hind feet and what they think were bony scales known as osteoderms. (Thank you for the pictures. Part of a Jaw, 3 "neck" bones, some ribs and an ankle)

A skeletal reconstruction of Mansourasaurus shahinae. Bones shown in color are those that are preserved in the original fossil; other bones are based on those of closely related dinosaurs. (LOOK AT WHATS IN PURPLE! THIS THING COULD BE HALF SNAKE FOR ALL WE KNOW. "We are basing this on previous sketchs from previous artists but keep in mind this is the most complete set of bones we have ever found) (Andrew McAfee / Carnegie Museum of Natural History)

Its features prompted the paleontologists to classify Mansourasaurus as a titanosaur, (Its features of having some neck, a leg and ribs. The artist drew the rest based on other artists pictures. Then they said WOW this picture looks similar to this picture I guess they are in the same family) a group that includes Dreadnoughtus, the 65-ton behemoth that weighed more than a Boeing 737, and the slightly larger Patagotitan, which was 12 times heavier than an elephant. However, for a titanosaur, Mansourasaurus was not particularly big.

The researchers are hopeful that that the discovery will help them understand some of the major changes that were happening during and after the late Cretaceous. The continents were pulling away from each other at that time, and scientists don't know how isolated the animals of Africa were.

    M. shahinae's bones suggest that the animals weren't as cut off as some researchers had come to believe. This creature appears to have been a closer relative of dinosaurs from Europe and Asia than it was to dinosaurs from the southern part of Africa or from present-day South America. (What does this even mean??)

Honestly. I chose the wrong profession. I should have kept my 3rd grade skill or drawing pictures of imaginary creatures and maybe I could be an archeologist too.

They did exist. I just took this photo earlier this year at my desk at work. Irrefutable proof dinosaurs exist and are real.

Discovery of tiny Tyrannosaur is a rare treat for paleontologists

It’s not hard to argue that the Tyrannosaurus rex is the most iconic dinosaur of all time. Thanks to depictions in popular culture and sci-fi movies (JURASSIC PARK HAS LED TO SOME SERIOUS SCIENTIFIC DISCOVIERS)) staring the greatest actor of all time, the T. rex is painted as a mighty, brutal carnivore that towers over its peers, but just like every animal, they would have started off small (). Paleontologists have many, many T. rex skeletons on record (FAKE NEWS), but very few of them are juvenile (OR MAYBE THEY ARE ITS OWN SPECIES OF MINI REXERS. WHO FUCKING KNOWS DUDE), and that’s what makes the recent discovery of a “school age” (PLEASE NOTE THAT LITERALLY THE NEXT COUPLE OF SENTENCES WILL SAY THEY HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA HOW OLD THIS DINOSAUR IS) T. rex in Montana so exciting for scientists.

The remarkably complete fossil of the tiny Tyrannosaur (OK. EVERY DINOSAUR NEWS STORY DOES THIS. A COMPLETE SKELETON? HOW ABOUT A JAW AND TEETH + SOME OTHER BONES) is an incredible treat for its discoverers, who uncovered it in the fossil-rich Hell Creek area. As Live Science reports, researchers are still trying to nail down exactly how old the young dino was when it died (CHECK ITS DINO BIRTH CERTIFICATE), and thanks to the relatively small number of juvenile T. rex fossils in the record, it’s proving to be somewhat of a challenge. (JUST GUESS THAT’S WHAT DINO SCIENCE IS ANYWAY. HOPEFULLY THEY JUST LEAVE IT AT UNKNOWN AGE FOR NOW INSTEAD OF JUST MAKING THINGS UP)

The specimen is larger than a previously discovered fossil of what was determined to be three-year-old T. rex (MAYBE IT’S A FUCKIN 4 YEAR OLD T REX THEN), but it’s also significantly small than one that was determined to be 11 years of age (IM SURE THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT DINOSAUR WAS 11. AND THIS ONES SMALLER, SO MUST BE YOUNGER! #SCIENCE). With that in mind, scientists have suggested it may have been anywhere from six to eight years of age before it passed, and it lived around 67 million years ago.(SO ITS BETWEEN 67,000,006 – 67,000,008 YEARS OLD)

Of course, “small” is a relative term when we’re talking about dinosaurs (FACTS ARE ALSO RELATIVE WHEN IT COMES TO DINOSAURS), and this young T. rex would still have been an intimidating sight if you stumbled upon it in an ancient forest or clearing (ANCIENT FORESTS WHERE THE MYTHICAL T-REX ROAMED). The creature measured around 17 feet long, which is obviously a lot shorter than the 40-or-so feet it would be when full grown (17 < 40), but that’s still large enough to put many modern animals to shame.

“By the time they were 4 years old, they were the size of some of the largest land predators that are around today,” Kyle Atkins-Weltman of the University of Kansas, one of the researchers working with the new specimen, told Live Science. “It’s literately hard to fathom an animal growing this fast because there’s really nothing quite like it in the modern world” (TAKE A STEP BACK AT THIS. THERE IS NOTHING THAT LITERALLY GROWS AS FAST AS THESE DINOSAURS IN THE WORLD. AND WE ARE JUDGEING THE SPEED OF THEIR GROWTH BY HOW BIG THEY ARE AT A CERTAIN AGE. BUT DETERMINING HOW OLD THEY ARE BY HOW BIG THEY ARE. WHAT?)

The scientists are currently preparing a paper (MIGHT AS WELL BE A COLORING BOOK) on the discovery that will provide further details on the specimen and hopefully reveal some more clues as to the animal’s age and history.

    SPOILER ALERT:

I'll vent about frustration of space movies. that's my field.

    1) Sorry, but most likely, there are no aliens visiting Earth. Mainly because any possible habitable planet is so frigging far, far away, that, even at the speed of light, it would still take longer than their entire evolution and succession to get here from where they are.

    2) We can not just rocket into orbit and then land on various assorted planets. These super earths that are being found probably generate at least twice as much gravity as Earth. Humans would feel crushed, but mainly, good luck launching back out. We can barely escape our own weak gravity with the most powerful engines available. And, only when visiting a planet of the exact size and composition of earth, could we walk around normal. (not crawl across the surface in misery, or bounce around like the moon landing).

    3) Space ships have no gravity. Only in Hollywood can you walk around normally on a space craft. I give bonus points to movies that mention "the gravity generator"...what ever that is...(the movie 2010 did have emulated centrifugal gravity in the spinning wheel portion of the craft.)

    3) Neat jet space-fighter wings have no use in space. You can't deflect and manipulate atmosphere when it's not there. There is no dog-fighting in space.

    4) Breathing atmosphere....think about it. The Space Federation from Star Trek and the rebel faction of Star Wars visit half a dozen planets per movie. It's very convenient that they all must have the exact atmosphere composition as Earth..., any slight variation would be hazards to humans. Some scary space movies have explorers in full suits and breathing masks. Good for them. (plus it's scarier that way.)

    5) The raw solar radiation of deep space is never mentioned. That is our biggest chore to date for our Mars visit,..(which will probably happen in your lifetimes). Just the 18 month transit time to Mars is enough to destroy human life.

    6) Bio-logical threats are seldom addressed in space movies. Just the slow human transit from one continent to another resulted in uncontrolled breakout of disease and plague. Skipping around and visiting a multitude of inhabited planets would be ultimately risky.

The irresponsible "license" taken by paleontologists pales in comparison to Hollywood grossing billions while not even addressing the realities of space travel. But it's all good.

I still LOVE a good space movie.

as for myself...I find that dinosaurs are much more likely than the Space Federation.

so if dinosaurs are fake what did the full upper jaw with teeth intact belong to? along with all the other pieces they found?

seems it takes more effort to scream there's no way dinosaurs existed then to just be open to the possibility. Science isn't about saying what's absolute, but what they know as of now, any scientist will say they are always learning and improving.

So.. by this logic, any fossils and skeletal remains we have discovered over the course of human history, whether complete or (usually) not, are fake? Or the creatures that scientists have theorized them to be are not real?

I admit that archaeology is 2/3 a guessing game, by comparing anatomical structures to those of currently existing creatures, and using our means of dating to determine exactly how old remains are.

Could they be fake? Sure. Could they have existed? Sure. Many parts of human history has been discovered by similar means (how older civilizations lived, died, etc), except human remains are much easier to compare and analyze.

And sure, it's much harder to believe when they have like five pieces of a whole creature, but what about those found in the past that are much more complete, such as "Sue", a T-Rex whose skeleton was supposedly 90% intact?

Anytime they find "dinosaur bones" they kick everyone out and bring in a "specialist" who then throws out the cow bones they discovered and makes a replacement bone out of paper machey.

Kat, Im a cultured person. I go to musuems and stuff and everytime they are like heres where we would keep our dinosaur bones IF WE HAD ANY! Then just have a plastic t-rex in the hall and a drawing of what they think a dinosaur is.

My stepdad absolutely detests Barney. Years ago he was in a motorcycle accident, and was stuck at home for weeks to heal and couldn't really do much. His twin's young children and wife were there during that time, and he got the pleasure of them watching Barney on repeat, non stop for all of those weeks. :p
